The eight teams who will contest the Europa League quarter-finals were settled last night and second favourites Liverpool will fly the flag for England thanks to their 3-1 win on aggregate against Manchester United. Liverpool will be joined in the quarter-finals by competition favourites Borussia Dortmund, who beat Spurs 2-1 last night at White Hart Lane, which sent the German’s through 5-1 on aggregate.
After drawing 0-0 in Basel, Sevilla progressed to the quarter-finals thanks to a comfortable 3-0 win at the Estadio Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán last night. Villarreal and Athletic Bilbao made it three Spanish teams through to the quarter-final stage thanks to a 2-0 win on aggregate for Villarreal against Leverkusen and Bilbao knocked out Valencia on the away goals rule after their two leg tie ended 2-2.
Sparta Prague shocked Italian Giants Lazio 3-0 in their backyard last night, sending the Czech’s through 4-1 on aggregate. Also last night Braga knocked out Fenerbahce 4-1 on aggregate and Shakhtar Donetsk progressed to the quarter-finals at the expense of Anderlecht.
