In the first legs of the Europa League semi-finals last night Liverpool were denied a valuable goalless draw at Villareal, as the home side snatched a last gasp winner two minutes in to injury time, while the tie between Shakhtar Donetsk and defending champions Sevilla produced a 4 goal thriller, which ended 2-2 on the night.

This leaves the Liverpool tie finally poised and the return leg at Anfield next Thursday is sure to produce another historic night of European football, on par with the Borussia Dortmund clash a fortnight ago, as the onus is now on Liverpool to go out and win given the one goal deficit.

Sevilla, who are still on for a famous Europa League treble and an unprecedented fifth in total, are now firmly in the driving seat and are the clear favourites to win the tournament, as well as the return leg at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán Stadium next Thursday thanks to their two away goals.
