This week’s ATP and WTA tournaments are now down to the quarter-final stages and as highlighted in Monday’s articles the top-five seeds (barring Murray and Goffin outright selections) have struggled again this week. At Queens top-seed Andy Murray, one of my outright selections this week, is still on course to win an unprecedented fifth Queens title and with Ivan Lendl back on his coaching team this looks like a distinct possibility. He will still need to be at the top of his game however, as third seed Raonic and fifth seed Cilic are still in the draw and playing well.

At Halle top-seed Federer is still in action and faces one of my other outright selections in today’s quarter-finals, fifth seed David Goffin (16/1), who will be up against it having lost all four previous encounters. Zverev (40/1) my other remaining outright selection also faces a tough test against veteran Baghdatis, who defeated him on grass in straight sets at Nottingham last year. Third seed Dominic Thiem and eighth seed Philip Kohlschreiber face each other for the second time in less than a week today and I expect Kohlschreiber to gain revenge for his Stuttgart final defeat.

On the WTA Tour at Birmingham top-seed Radwanska (1.36), fourth seed Bencic (1.36) and fifth seed Kvitova (1.27) all lost while at Mallorca second seed Jankovic lost the first set 6-0 but battled back to win and third seed Ivanovic is still alive, but seventh and eighth seeds Siegmund (1.57) and Bouchard (1.37) both lost, proving that it’s definitely worth opposing short priced seeded players making the transition from clay too grass, especially on the WTA.
