Golf The Greatest Open Ever

Henrik Stensen emerged victorious after a 4 hour duel in the sun with Phil Mickelson in what was the greatest final round ever in the Open.

Sweden's first ever major winner , posted an incredible 63 to hold off the multiple open winning American who posted a 65 and lost !!

The pair were a staggering 12 shots ahead of the field.

Probably the greatest round of golf ever played saw the Swede Henrik Stenson lift the claret jug after a superb battle with Phil Mickelson over the final two days. Mickelson claims he played one of his best ever rounds but was beaten by a better man on the day and many likened it to “the duel in the sun” at Turnberry in 1977 when Watson beat Nicklaus, with Golden Bear, the great man himself, saying that this was better.

The rest of the field didn’t count as the two of them slugged it out and when Henrik bogeyed eleven, it looked like Mickelson might have a chance. Stenson then produced unbelievable golf with birdies at four of the last five holes to stun Lefty and stretch his winning margin to three shots. The Sunday shoot-out will live long in the memory.

This week we have no tournament on the European tour but in the States, Jason Day will defend his Canadian Open title, and many will have to endure a long transatlantic flight to take part. As such it is a tournament we will leave alone for betting purposes.
