Jhonattan Vegas held his nerve while others faltered to land the Canadian Open, his second tour victory. Dustin Johnson, Brandt Snedeker, Martin Laid, Steve Wheatcroft and Ricky Barnes all had chances to win but couldn’t convert a host of chances leaving the Venezuelan to pick up the trophy.
This week we have the fourth and final major of the season, the USPGA at Baltusrol, Springfield, New Jersey. This will be a tough test as the course is long and hugely favours big hitters although they will need to be accurate.
That should suit Dustin Johnson, Rory McIlroy, Jason Day Jordan Spieth and Bubba Watson but there are one or two players who will also be suited at better odds including JB Holmes, Ryan Palmer and Henrik Stenson.
The last named, the Open champion is the kind of player who can play very well over a short period of time and is well capable of winning again. Of the home players, Justin Rose could go well and Open runner up Phil Mickelson has winning course form and once again can never be discounted.
