Serena Williams 186 week reign as the WTA number one ranked player comes to an end today and she will be replaced by world number two Angelique Kerber after she beat Karolina Pliskova 6-3 4-6 6-4 in Saturday’s US Open Final. Kerber added the US Open to her Australian Open title and is now the best female player in the world. Kerber became the oldest player to gain the number one ranking and apart from Williams became the first female player to win two Grand Slams in a year since Justine Henin in 2007.
