Chelsea ended the weekend top of the Premier League thanks to a narrow hard fought 1-0 win at Middlesbrough yesterday. The win was their sixth in a row and it puts them 1 point clear of Liverpool and Manchester City in second place. Spurs dramatic 3-2 win at home against West Ham Saturday tea time meant they left strugglers Manchester United five points adrift of the European places in sixth place.

Newcastle United extended their winning run to eight matches yesterday and also lead at the top of the Championship to five points, after beating Leeds 2-0 at Elland Road yesterday. Their nearest rivals Brighton in second failed to win on Friday against Villa drawing 1-1, while Reading moved up to third after recording their fourth straight win against Burton 3-0 on Saturday.
