Cricket – ICC Champions Trophy

Andrew Cork

Pakistan took their place in the semi-finals with a narrow three wicket win in a roller-coaster match against Sri Lanka. The match showed the best and worst of Pakistan. High quality, accurate bowling kept the pressure on Sri Lanka, who looked in control at 161-3 in the 31st over. Having been set a target of just 236, Pakistan really struggled and looked on the way out at 162-7. However, very generous fielding and a captain’s innings from Sarfraz saw Pakistan through with five overs to spare.

Pakistan’s reward is a semi-final clash against England.

England V Pakistan

Venue - The SSE Swalec, Cardiff

Start – 10.30 (BST)

Exchange prices – England (1.38), Pakistan (3.55)

Weather – Dry, bright and sunny.

Based on what we’ve seen to date, England look worthy favourites as Pakistan’s batting looks extremely fragile whereas England have looked strong in all departments. However, by all accounts we are looking at a low and slow pitch and this may suit the team from the sub-continent.

I do feel that England’s attack may be too powerful for the Pakistan batsmen and they may be forced to take risks against the spinners. If England bat first and set a target of 300+, Pakistan will struggle. However, if Pakistan can put the pressure on with their bowling, they may frustrate the attacking flair of the England team and could cause a shock. Therefore, if you are keen to have a bet, a win bet on Pakistan may represent a bit of value.
