Tennis

The action at this year’s Shanghai Masters 1000 Series is now well underway and the third round commenced today. There are have already been quite a few upsets so far with five seeds crashing out in the first and second rounds. In the first round fifth seed Cilic lost against the talented Jarry from Chile and sixth seed Thiem lost against veteran Aussie Ebden. In the second round ninth seed veteran American Querrey was too good for Schwartzman, twelfth seed Sock couldn’t match the talent of German Gojowczyk and fourteenth seed Raonic found American qualifier McDonald too good.

The tournament favourites and top-two seeds Federer and Djokovic are still on track to reach the final along with third seed Del Potro, fourth seed Sascha Zverev and seventh seed Anderson. Other seeds still standing are tenth seed Tsitsipas, eleventh seed Edmunds and finally thirteenth seed Coric. By the time today’s play has finished the fourth round line up will be complete and I’ll be back on Friday to run through the quarter finals line.

Selections:

None.
