It was a monumental weekend in the Premier League as the race for the title was blown wide open. Leaders City blew a great chance to assert their dominance at Stamford Bridge, but the Blues held firm, frustrated the Citizens on numerous occasions during the first half, and the contrast between Chelsea 2-1 loss last week against Wolves and on Saturday their significant win against City is a clear sign of their inconsistency at present, which is understandable under a new manager only used to managing abroad.
Liverpool deservedly took advantage of City’s shock 2-0 defeat at Chelsea and are now the new leaders by one point from Man City after they blitzed Bournemouth 0-4 at Dean Court in the earl lunchtime kick-off. Last seasons star player Mo Salah stepped-up and stole the show for the first time this season with a superb hat-trick, which was made even more impressive as he was playing as a lone striker.
Spurs continue to impress and after their impressive 2-0 win against Leicester City at the King Power stadium on Saturday evening. Their win moved them two points clear of Chelsea in fourth, within five points of City and six behind leaders new Liverpool. The upcoming festive and New Year period will soon be up on us soon and as always is going to be a real big test for the all the teams, but especially the big boys and how they will cope with the upcoming hectic festive and New Year period.
The Gunners have been steadily improving under new leadership as well and currently sit fifth in the European places level on points with city rivals Chelsea. Their main improvements have come at the back and in defence and clean sheet 2-0 against Leicester at the King Power Stadium was perfect evidence of this. Manchester United finally produced a performance their fans and manager were more satisfied with after going for the jugular from the start against bottom of the table and it paid off with a comfortable 4-1, which moved United up to sixth eight points behind Arsenal.
There were big wins for relegation threatened teams Burnley and Cardiff on Saturday who both fought and scrapped hard for 1-0 wins against fellow strugglers Brighton and Southampton. On Sunday Newcastle failed to continue their upturn in form and results after their 1-2 injury time loss against promoted Wolves.
