Horseracing Review of The Weekend

Triumph Market Turned on Its Head

The first of four group 1 races at Leopardstown saw Ivan Gorbatchev the hot favourite for the Triumph Hurdle fail to place- difficult to see why he still heads the market.

My view is that the winner of this year's race is more likely to come from the UK.

Neptune Market Turned On Its Head

Next up was the 2.5 mile Group 1 Novice and this saw Bellshill the ante post favourite for the Neptune well beaten.

Again I would not be in a hurry to take short prices about Irish contenders in this race.

Valseur De Lido looks a live Cheltenham hope

Ruby Walsh had a day to forget on Saturday and the final installment came when Valseur De Lido stumbled and fell after the last fence in the Irish Gold Cup. He looked to be trotting in at the time and as a young horse who is improving fast could be Willie Mullin's secret weapon for the Gold Cup.
