A good week on the tennis front again after I advised Wawrinka who won the title at Dubai (8/1) and also Pablo Cuevas (6/1) who was through to the final at Sao Paulo at the time of writing).

It was also another fantastic week for one of the hottest properties in tennis at present Dominic Thiem, who at just 22 won his first ATP 500 event and tournament on hard courts at Acapulco on Saturday.

February has been a really strong month for Thiem who had already won the title at Buenos Aires and reached the semi-finals at Rio last week. That’s five ATP tournaments wins for Thiem now (four on clay and one hardcourts) and this one might be the real catalyst that helps propel him in to the top-10 (up to 14 after Acapulco win) as he’d not shown much promise on hard courts prior to this performance.

There’s no ATP tennis action this week due to the 2016 Davis Cup getting underway on Friday.

New father Andy Murray has committed himself to the GB team for 2016 and they will attempt to defend the historic title they won last year. Serbia will be ecstatic that world number one Novak Djokovic has committed himself to the Davis Cup team for 2016, as he was a fundamental part of the team that last won the tournament for the nation back in 2010.

With Djokovic at the helm and Victor Troicki back in form and playing well Serbia are now favourites to win the tournament at 5/2. Both teams are in the top half of the draw and if they both win their opening ties against Japan and Kazakhstan respectively, they will meet in the second round. This obviously does not bode well for GB’s chances of defending their title as it’s hard to see them having much success in the singles rubbers with Djokovic and Troicki in the team.
