In the Premier League on Sunday 10 man Liverpool moved to within five points of the European places with a game in hand thanks to a 96th minute Christian Benteke winner against Crystal Palace. The defeat will have been a bitter pill for Palace manager Alan Pardew and his players to swallow as they gifted Liverpool their equalizer and the injury time winner was a cruel blow.
The defeat was Palace’s fifth in a row and it leaves them sixth from bottom nine points clear of the relegation zone. Judging by the form of the current bottom three they should be safe from relegation this season, but Pardew will need to address their current slump sooner rather than later if he wants to be at the helm again next season.
The final game of the weekend between West Brom and 10 man Manchester United at the Hawthorns went the way of the home side thanks to a 66th minute Rondon winner. The sending off of Juan Mata in the first half was enough to expose United’s weak underbelly this season and the defeat halted their four-match winning run and mini revival. The win moved the Baggies up to mid table while United dropped to sixth and out of the European places again after West Ham and Manchester City both won on Saturday.
