Tennis

All three of our tennis selections at Indian Wells this week Stan Wawrinka (10/1), Milos Raonic (16/1) and John Isner (50/1) have made it through to the fourth round without any real drama. Stan Wawrinka faces David Goffin for a place in the quarter-finals tonight and he should progress without too much trouble as he holds a 3-0 head-to-head record against the Belgian number one.

Milos Raonic will face his first serious challenge of the week against sixth seed Tomas Berdych tonight. They’ve met four times previously on hard courts, Raonic won three of them and while it should be a close encounter I expect Raonic to prevail.

Finally, John Isner will also face his toughest test of the week so far when he plays fifth seed Kei Nishikori tomorrow night. They’ve met twice in their careers, both times on hard courts in North America last year. Isner won in straight sets in Miami while Nishikori won a really close three setter in Washington. Tonight’s encounter will no doubt be close and if Isner can produce another world class serving performance he stands a realistic chance of beating Nishikori again.
