Golf
Two shock winners on the golf at the weekend, Ashun Wu winning in Austria and Daniel Berger winning in Memphis. Anyone picking those two in a double must have a crystal ball and will already know the winners for the next few weeks!!
This week we have the US Open at Oakmont which is ranked as one of the top five courses in America and is unusual in that it has hardly any water hazards and almost no trees on the course. It does, however, boast around 200 bunkers and, as with all US Open courses, the rough will be high and the greens lightning fast. You need to be a player at the top of your game to compete.
The young superstars, Jordan Spieth, Jason Day, Rory McIlroy and Dustin Johnson may have played the course before but I can find no record of them playing it in competitive golf. They will of course be used to playing tough courses with quick greens and know that they must keep the ball in the fairway to compete. We need to find a player in decent form who drives the ball well and can putt on glass.
The other thing we want is some value for betting purposes as this is the toughest event of the year. I suggest looking for some value with Patrick Reed around 50/1, Matt Kuchar around 40/1, Brooks Koepka at around 40/1 and throw in Ryan Moore at 150/1. This should give us a bit of interest over the weekend and hopefully return us a profit and, if you do want to back one of the favourites, I think Jason Day is the best option.
