Steve Taylor

Jimmy Walker was the winner of the final major of the season, the USPGA, by one shot from world number one Jason Day, as others challenged but faltered on a 36 hole final day for the leaders. The weather was challenging but the wet course certainly made conditions a little easier but Walker led from start to finish and was a deserved recipient of the Wanamaker Trophy.

Henrik Stenson looked a big danger until the wheels came off on the 15th when overshooting the green. It left Day as the final challenger but despite a superb eagle on 18, Walker held his nerve for his maiden Major.

The golf this week is the Travelers Championship and a lot of the top golfers are preparing for Rio and the Olympics. Bubba Watson won last year and will be well fancied to defend his title and hit top form for Rio but look out for Brooks Koepka who looks sure to win soon, and Paul Casey and Patrick Reed who both have hit form and look winners waiting to happen.

Europe there is the Paul Lawrie Matchplay in Scotland. There is not a huge amount of depth to this tournament and players in form such as Alex Noren, Chris Wood and Richie Ramsay must be considered in a format I'm not keen on betting on.
