The English Football League gets underway tonight as Fulham welcome Newcastle United to Craven Cottage. Fulham sold their star asset and last season’s Championship top scorer Ross McCormack this week to rivals Villa for £12 million, which does not inspire confidence for their ambitions of success this season.
Newcastle will be without the suspended Mitrovic for the first four games of the season, but in Dwight Gale they have a proven stand in who is more than capable of scoring goals at this level. Both teams have a new look compared to last season with seven new signings for Fulham and Newcastle have added quality to an already strong squad.
Both teams impressed in pre-season and Newcastle look the stronger outfit on paper and should come out of this encounter with at least a point.
Tomorrow’s English Football League action sees a full set of fixtures in all three Leagues. The pick of Saturday’s fixtures in the Championship look to be between Derby and Brighton at the IPro stadium, Blackburn vs Norwich at Ewood Park and on Sunday Sheffield Wednesday vs Aston Villa.
From a betting perspective in the Championship this weekend Norwich, Derby and Aston Villa all look like good value to get their campaigns off to a winning start and the Treble can be backed at just over 19/1.
