Tennis

This week’s ATP action at Cincinnati is now down to the quarter-final stage and at the time of writing Bernard Tomic, who is unseeded this week, was through to the last eight and will face the winner between top-seed Andy Murray and the unseeded Kevin Anderson, who were due to play in the early hours of this morning. Dominic Thiem made the last eight courtesy of a walk over after one of my selections this week ninth seed Gael Monfils withdrew due to injury.

At the time of writing Thiem was due to face the winner between fourth seed Raonic or surprise package qualifier Sugita, while Coric, who is also unseeded this week, recorded the upset of the week so far knocking out Nadal in straight sets and he will face either sixth seed Berdych or 12th seed Cilic, who were due to play in the early hours of this morning. Finally my one remaining selection this week Johnson (80/1) is through to the last eight after knocking out seventh seed Tsonga yesterday.

Johnson will face the unseeded Dimitrov, who knocked out second seed Wawrinka yesterday, and this is sure to be a highly entertaining encounter judging by their three previous encounters that were all close and Johnson could be the one to emerge victorious again having won the last two, including a 3 sets win at Washington on hard courts last year.
