The first group stage matches for the Euro zone World Cup qualifying are now complete and on Sunday night the home nations made a promising start with England and Scotland, who are both in Group F, both collecting three points. Northern Ireland picked up another impressive result drawing 0-0 away against the Czech Republic in Group C, while on Monday night Wales made a winning start against Moldova in Group D.

Elsewhere, the Republic of Ireland did well to come back from 2-1 down to draw 2-2 with Serbia in Group D on Monday night, there were comfortable wins for Spain, who thrashed Liechtenstein 8-0 in Group G, Germany beat Norway 3-0 away thanks to a brace from Muller to go top of Group C and in Group G Italy were too strong for Israel winning 3-1 away.

In Group D Austria, who disappointed at Euro 2016, got their campaign off to winning start away to Georgia winning 2-1, but in Group I Croatia, who also disappointed at Euro 2016 after being strongly fancied to win the tournament, failed to get their campaign off to a winning start drawing with Turkey at home. Also in Group I Euro 2016 heroes Iceland continued their impressive form holding Ukraine to a 1-1 draw in Kiev, but Poland failed to get their campaign off to a winning start in Group E after drawing away 2-2 against Kazakhstan.
