This week’s ATP tennis action over in China at Chengdu and Shenzen is now well underway and the incomplete and outstanding first round matches and the majority of second round matches should be completed today, barring the top-seeds like Berdych at Shenzen and Thiem and Kyrgios at Chengdu who get their campaigns underway tomorrow.
At Chengdu my one outright selection fifth seed Dimitrov (5/1) gets his campaign underway today against Lajovic, who he’s never played before, but should progress without too much drama if he plays anywhere near his best.
At Shenzen third seed Gasquet (7/1) gets his campaign underway today against little known qualifier Australian Andrew Whittington and as long as he’s fit and healthy he should progress without any drama.
Fourth seed Tomic (10/1) gets his campaign underway tomorrow morning against qualifier Harrison and will need to be at his absolute best, as Harrison is on a hot streak at present having won eight of his last nine matches on hard courts, qualified this week and won his first round match against the experienced Garcia-Lopez impressively.
From a match betting or trading perspective it may pay to oppose those players who featured in the latter stages or finals of tournaments in Europe last week and are playing today/tomorrow morning e.g. at Shenzen second seed Goffin against Jaziri at around 1.2, top-seed Berdych against Kukushkin at around 1.16 and fifth seed Alexander Zverev against Nishioka at around 1.4.
