Defending champion and second seed Stan Wawrinka (11/2) crashed out at the first round stage at Dubai on Monday losing in straight sets against Dzumhur. There were no other major shocks at Dubai as top-seed Murray, third seed Federer (11/2), fourth seed Monfils, fifth seed Berdych, sixth seed Bautista-Agut and seventh seed Pouille all won their first round matches in straight sets.
There were no major shocks at Acapulco as all of the top-eight seeds, bar seventh seed and Delray Beach winner Jack Sock, won their first round matches. Top-seed Djokovic and second seed Nadal are the tournament favourites but if you are looking for a player at bigger odds who may spring a surprise this week then fifth seed, Sofia and Rotterdam finalist Goffin is worth a shot given his recent good form.
There were no major shocks at Sao Paolo in the first round but two of my outright selections Monteiro (33/1) and Estrella-Burgos (40/1) disappointed losing their first round matches against Berlocq and Melzer respectively. Third seed Cuevas (7/1) gets his campaign underway today as do top-two seeds and fourth seed Carreno-Busta, Ramos-Vinolas and Sousa.
From a match betting/trading perspective today there are a few favourites that I think may lose or struggle to win today. At Sao Paolo eighth seed Berlocq (1.7) is worth opposing against compatriot Pella today as the head-to-head stands at 2-2 and Berlocq had to play a tough three set match yesterday. At Dubai Kohlschreiber (1.5) is worth opposing against the in-form NextGen star Medvedev as is fourth seed Monfils (1.3) against Britain’s Dan Evans who has been in good form so far this year.
