Real Madrid and Bayern Munich played out a classic Champions League return leg knockout encounter last night at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium as the visitors clawed back the one goal deficit from the first leg to send the tie in to extra-time. Cristiano Ronaldo was the hero again for the defending champions as he netted the all-important goal in normal time that kept them in the tie and he bagged a brace in the space of 5 minutes in extra-time for his hat-trick. Bayern had no response to Madrid’s domination of extra-time and the tie ended 6-3 to Real Madrid on aggregate.
At the King Power stadium last night Leicester fought valiantly to overcome a first leg 1-0 deficit against Atletico Madrid, but the visitors scored first through Niguez in the first half, which left the Foxes with too much of a mountain to climb as they needed to score another three goals without reply to get back in to the tie. Vardy levelled the game midway through the second half but Atletico held firm to proceed to the semi-finals 2-1 on aggregate.
The second legs of the second set of Champions League quarter-finals take place tonight and Barcelona will attempt to overcome a 3-0 deficit against Juventus at the Nou Camp while Borussia Dortmund travel to Monaco and will attempt to overcome a 3-2 deficit. Barcelona managed to overcome a 4-0 deficit in the second leg of their fourth round tie against PSG, but its unlikely Juventus will be as generous at the back tonight, while the Monaco and Dortmund match should be another exciting affair with plenty of goals as the visitors will surely go all out to net the vital away goals and try and end the tie in normal time.
