This week’s ATP Tennis action at St Petersburg, Russia and Metz, France is now down to the Quarter-Final stage. At St Petersburg top two seeds Bautista-Agut and Tsonga are still in the hunt for the title and they face seventh seed Troicki and eighth seed Lennard-Struff respectively. They both lead the head-to-head 3-0 and are hot favourites to progress. The other two quarter-finals feature third seed Fognini against the unseeded Berankis, who benefited from fifth seed Kohlschreiber (9/1) withdrawing due to injury, and Fognini leads the head-to-head 2-0 and is favourite to progress, while Dzhumur (Advised 25/1) faces qualifier Britain’s Liam Brody, who has already knocked out one of my other outright selections fourth seed Mannarino so has to be respected in today’s match.
At Metz, second seed Goffin (1.40) is still in action and he faces seventh seed and home hop Paire for the fifth time today. The head-to-head stands at 2-2 and with the second seed having a poor record at Metz over the last decade, Paire having a good record against the Belgian and Goffin potentially fatigued after a high-pressure Davis Cup tie at the weekend it could prove profitable to oppose him today.
Fifth seed Zverev (1.35) is favourite to progress to the final from the top-half of the draw and he faces home hope and Lucky Loser De Schepper for the second time. The Frenchman leads the-head-to-head 1-0 and with Lucky Losers strangely posting plenty of good runs in tournaments (two tournament winners this year Rublev and Mayer) it’s worth opposing Zverev. The other two matches are between Copil, who knocked out third seed and defending champion Pouille and qualifier Gojowczyk and the German qualifier leads the head-to-head 2-1 and the other encounter is between unseeded Istomin and Basilashvili who play for the first time.
