The win moved them one point clear of third-placed Spurs and reduced the gap on leaders Manchester City, who play tonight at Stoke, to thirteen points. It was a good weekend overall in the Premier League for favourite backers with Chelsea, Arsenal, Spurs, Everton and Leicester all winning, Newcastle produced a top-class performance beating relegation rivals Southampton 3-0 at St James’ Park and the three points moved them five clear of the relegation zone. Huddersfield could rue their inability to capitalise on almost total domination against ten-man Swansea on Saturday and the visitors heroically held on for a 0-0 draw and a valuable point.
