Horseracing can be a cruel game as Willie Mullins was reminded yesterday

Al Boum Photo looked certain to give him his third group 1 win on the card at Punchestown after being left clear by the fall of Monalee who was travelling like the winner.

However, inexplicably the Mullins horse ran out leaving arch rival Gordon Elliott to rack up a 1-2-3.

Earlier, Willie had landed a 1-2-4 in the feature 2 mile chase in which Un Des Sceaux gave perhaps the finest performance of his career to lead all the way,ridden by trainer's son Patrick.

Patrick could repeat the feat today in the Gold Cup on Djakadam who just lost out in a thriller in the race last year.
