This weeks ATP Tour tennis action at Lyon and Geneva is now down to the semi-final stage and at the time of writing two of my four outright selections, sixth seed Johnson (25/1) and the unseeded Gojowczyk (40/1) were both through to the Geneva semi-finals. The other remaining outright selection, Thiem (6/5) match against Garcia-Lopez at Lyon was suspended at 6-7 7-6 last night. If Thiem wins his delayed quarter final today he will also have to play the semi-final today against the in form Lajovic, who won his quarter final against NextGen star Fritz in impressive fashion yesterday.

Johnson had a tough day yesterday having to play two matches, which he won against qualifier Rosol in three sets and then Pella in straight sets. Johnson will face the impressive NextGen star Fucsovic from Hungary today, who knocked out third seed and defending champion Wawrinka yesterday, for a place in Saturday’s final and this will be there first meeting.

While Johnson should win given his greater experience, I’ve been impressed by Fucsovic’s form and wins this week, which I think read better as he won all three of his matches in straight sets against fifth seed Ramos-Vinolas, proven NextGen star Tiafoe and as mentioned above third seed Wawrinka. If you’ve backed Johnson outright I advise at least covering your outright stake or hedging some profit by backing Fucsovic, who is the outsider around the 6/5 mark.

Gojowoczyk also faces a tough task of reaching the final today as he faces second seed Fognini, who I thought would not perform this week after seeing him struggle with tendinitis in his knee against Rafa at the Rome Masters 1000 Series last week. Fognini beat Gojowczyk at Rome last week in straight sets 6-4 6-4, which was the first meeting on the ATP Tour. The best way to cover your outright stakes or to hedge a profit for Gojowcyzk looks to be backing Fognini in the outright market as he’s still available at odds against with a handful of bookmakers.

British number three Cameron Norrie hinted in the Davis Cup earlier this year that he was on the verge of making a breakthrough at ATP Tour level and that transpired this week at Lyon, where he’s reached the semi-finals in impressive fashion. His most impressive win was against second seed Isner in straight sets yesterday and he faces another experienced veteran today in, home hope Simon, who is also unseeded this week.

This will be there first ever match and the layers make Simon the slight favourite, but from a betting perspective I think it’s worth taking Simon on and backing Norrie (Evens).
