There’s not much to report on the ATP tennis front at Cincinnati as at the time of writing the start of the third round action was delayed due to rain. The only completed third round match at the time of writing was thirteenth seed Carreno-Busta against the unseeded Haase who knocked out third seed Zverev, and the Spaniard continued his good form this week winning in straight sets. Second seed Federer was due to face the unseeded Mayer from Argentina for the third time, fourth seed Del Potro was due to face fifteenth seed Kyrgios which could be a potential blockbuster encounter between two of the biggest servers and ball strikers in the game and fifth seed Dimitrov and defending champion was due to face tenth seed Djokovic who leads the head-to-head 7-1.
Sixth seed Anderson (advised 20/1) was due to face eleventh seed Goffin who leads the head-to-head 1-0, seventh seed Cilic was due to face the unseeded Khachanov for the first time and this match also has the potential to be a highly entertaining encounter between to big serving and hitting heavyweights of the men’s game. The other two third round matches due to take place were an all Canadian encounter between Raonic and Shapovalov and Fuscovics and Wild Card Wawrinka who has impressed this week beating twelfth seed Schwartzman and Nishikori.
