Before I move on to this weeks ATP Tour tennis action At Winston Salem I’ll provide a quick run-down of last week’s action at the Cincinnati Masters 1000 Series. It was the veterans who dominated proceedings again last week, the final was contested by second seed and seven time Cincinnati champion Federer now aged 37 and a resurgent Djokovic aged 31, who was aiming to win his first Cincinnati title and create history by becoming the first player in the modern era to win all nine of the current Masters 1000 Series titles on the ATP Tour. Their rivalry has been ongoing for over a decade now, this was due to be their forty sixth meeting between the two and Djokovic just edges the head-to-head 23-22.

This week’s ATP Tour action is at Winston Salem in the USA and it’s the final tournament before the final Grand Slam of the season the US Open at Flushing Meadow. The top seed has a poor record at Winston Salem winning one of the last seven titles (Bautista Agut 2017) and they were never a losing finalist in this period, which does not bode well for top-seed Goffin’s chances this week. The second seed has not performed much better winning one of the last seven titles (Anderson 2015) and they were a losing finalist twice during this period (last Bautista Agut 2016). Seeded players in general have a good record at Winston Salem since its inception, a player seeded no higher than nine won the last seven titles (last Bautista Agut 2017) and a player seeded no higher than fifteen was a losing finalist three times during this period (last Bautista Agut 2016). An unseeded player has never won the title, but they were a losing finalist three times over the last seven seasons (last Hebert 2015).

From an outright tournament betting perspective, I’m going to keep my powder dry this week. I may have some match bets on Wednesday or Friday but there are no first round match bets for today and don’t forget to tune in next Monday for my US Open preview.
