Jose Mourinho’s job looked more in doubt when Newcastle stunned his team and the Old Trafford masses by taking a shock 2-0 lead within ten minutes. Newcastle looked like they might hold on to there lead with about half an hour to go but out of nowhere United showed what they are capable of offensively with Mata and Martial netting the equalizers within six minutes and ironically the winner came in injury time from second half sub and fringe player Sanchez.
The win wasn’t anything to get excited about, however, as overall United are still way off being a team that can mount serious challenges any for any competitions this season, and until things turn around drastically for the better the media madness around Mourinho and how long will his tenure will last will no doubt continue.
Last season’s Championship winners Wolves continued there impressive start to the season with a hard fought 1-0 win at struggling Palace at Selhurst Park, which moves them up to seventh in the league level on points with sixth placed Arsenal. Ten man Leicester City were shocked at home by an impressive Everton who won 2-1 and I think the Toffees are a much stronger threat when new signing Richarlson is fit and playing as he proved today netting the first half opener.
Burnley missed a great opportunity to pick up three points with after dominant performance against Huddersfield at Turf Moor but they failed to take advantage of a stubborn Terriers who will be happy to leave with a point. The performance of the day on Saturday is held for Bournemouth who thrashed a very good Watford side 4-0 at Vicarage Road. This is Bournemouth’s best start to a Premier league season and they currently sit in the European places in fifth.
On Sunday there was plenty of high quality action, drama and entertainment but the much hyped top of the table blockbuster clash between Liverpool and Manchester City at Anfield failed to deliver on the excitement and goals front, unlike more recent corresponding fixtures had, and a 0-0 finish was the last result I expected.
Arsenal delivered the performance of the day, showing what they are capable of when there attacking players click and are on fire. Lacazette netted a brace with the first goal and the goal that set off the second half four goal onslaught, and sub Aubamayeng was the Gunners second half hero setting up Ramsey’s third and he scored the last two to making Fulham feel even more crushed.
The win moves Arsenal up to fourth level on points with arch rivals Spurs but only two points behind the leaders. One of the three is Chelsea, who turned on the style against Southampton at St Mary’s yesterday thrashing them 3-0 with star man Hazard fittingly leading his team to victory with the important opening goal. Regular Chelsea first team starter Ross Barkley is looking like a much more mature and complete player so far this season and he put Chelsea two up midway through the second half and the third came from striker Morata in injury time.
