Another busy week on the ATP Tour continues today at Stockholm, Moscow and Antwerp and where almost down to the second round stage with only a few first round matches left to play today. The biggest upset at Stockholm yesterday was fifth seed Pouille losing to American Sandgren in straight sets. Seeded players did well in the first round like sixth seed Chung who breezed past the talented young American Fritz in straight sets, as did eighth seed Verdasco knocking out Aussie Ebden in straight sets. The top four seeds who receive a first round bye also join the action today and tomorrow, which should liven up the action further.

At Moscow we lost two seeded in the first round, defending champion Dzhumur who was knocked out qualifier Gerasimov in three sets and eighth seed Klizan was sent packing by veteran Seppi in straight sets. There were a few other upsets, Donskoy beating Kukushkin and qualifier Rosol knocking out the talented young Italian in a close three set encounter. The top four seeds also start entering the action today and tomorrow, which should liven things up and add further quality and don’t be surprised if there are more seeds upset.

At Antwerp we lost two seeds in the first round seventh seed American Tiafoe who was beaten by veteran Lopez and eighth seed Haase who found the talented young qualifier Ivashka to good losing in straight sets both tiebreaks. Fifth and sixth seeds Monfils and Simon had little trouble dispatching their first round opponents beating Stakhovsky and Bemelmans in straight sets. The top four seeded enter the action today and tomorrow which should liven up the action a bit more but don’t be surprised if there are some upsets along the way. I’ll also be keeping a close eye on the two British players in the draw, top-seed Edmunds and the unseeded Corrie who have both had good seasons and there’s no reason barring injury why both can’t perform well this week.
