The first round action at this week’s two ATP 500 tournaments at Basel and Vienna. At the time of writing there was only one shock result which was sixth seed Checchinato lost in straight sets against home grown veteran Laakssonen 6-4 6-2. The same applies at Vienna where all the seeded players were still standing and the ones to progress to there second round where second seed Anderson, fourth seed Isner who beat British number two Norrie on a third set tie break, fifth seed Nishikori, sixth seed Coric and seventh seed Fognini.
