The 2018 ATP Tour Finals is now well underway and top seed and world number one Djokovic and third seed Zverev both opened their Kuerten Group campaigns with impressive straight sets wins against ninth seed Isner and fifth seed Cilic respectively. The Kuerten Group action continues today and first up there’s the blockbuster potential group winner decider between Djokovic and Zverev.
The head-to-head stands at 1-1, but Djokovic won their only 2018 meeting at the Shanghai Masters 1000 Series, which was a one sided affair that Djokovic won 6-2 6-1 and a repeat of that performance should see win again. The evening Kuerten Group match is between Cilic and Isner, Cilic leads the head-to-head 7-3 and while he’ll be expected to win, I think Isner could edge this one if he can serve lights out for two or three sets.
Fourth seed Anderson leads the Hewitt Group after an impressive start winning his two matches against sixth seed Thiem and Nishikori in straight sets. His win against Nishikori yesterday, who beat second seed Federer in the first round, was particularly eye catching, and he will face the all-time great next today. If Anderson can maintain his current form and raise his game again another upset could be on the cards and if he does win, he’ll be the first to qualify for the semi-final knockout stage and leave Federer and Nishikori to fight it out for the runner-up spot.
