The hectic period of festive and new year domestic Premier League football action that featured three matches in the space of eight days, culminated last night with the blockbuster clash of the season between current leaders Liverpool and defending champions Manchester City at the Etihad. The encounter was another exhilarating and quality encounter and the three points and bragging rights went to City on this occasion with a hard fought 2-1 win. Their goals came from Aguero, Sane scored the winner and this meant City moved back up to second just four points behind Liverpool.
Looking ahead to the weekend’s domestic football action and there’s loads of third round FA Cup action and a handful of EFL League One and Two matches involving teams who have already been knocked out of the FA Cup. The third round of the FA Cup is when Premier League clubs join the competition and the likes of Man Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal and Everton are all in action today, they face lower league opposition and on current form they all should progress to the fourth round if they field strong enough teams. Other Premier League teams like Newcastle Utd, Southampton, Huddersfield and Cardiff are all in action against lower league opposition today and because they’re battling relegation the FA Cup could be an unwelcome distraction, which could result in a few upsets.
