Sunday (matches start midnight)
Before I move on to my thoughts and selections for the first round of the Australian Open which commences at midnight today, I’ll provide a quick round up of last week’s ATP Tour tournament action at Sydney and Auckland. Aussie NextGen star confirmed his status as a future big star of the game by winning his first ATP title at Sydney on Saturday at the tender age of 19. De Minaur did the hard way as well winning his semi-final and final against veteran Seppi from Italy both on Saturday 7-5 7-5.
American Tennys Sandgren aged 26 continued his impressive rise-up the ATP rankings by winning his second ATP title at Auckland without dropping a set on Saturday and he beat British NextGen star Cam Norrie in straight sets, who was contending his first ATP final in the city where he was born. With two NextGen stars reaching the finals of the first ATP Tour tournaments of the season alongside older more experienced players it could mean more of the NextGen could be closing the gap and will be contending and winning more finals in 2019.
Moving on to the first round of the men’s Australian Open which commences midnight tonight and there are several matches and players I like that should win their respective matches if they produce their best tennis next week. I’ve combined five players who are experienced and proven performers at this level in a Treble and Double against players who are either lower ranked and/or out of form and if one of the bets comes in it will return a profit. I’m also opposing 2018 Australian Open quarter finalist, NextGen star and twenty fourth seed Chung against experienced American Klahn as Chung missed a big chunk of 2018 due to injury and has looked way below his best so far this year.
