It’s quarter finals day on the ATP Tour this week at Marseille, Delray Beach and Rio de Janeiro and there’s already been plenty of shocks and upsets so far. At Marseille there’s only three seeds left standing, top-seed Tsitsipas, third seed Goffin and sixth seed home hope Simon who faces third seed Goffin. The other five players left at the quarter finals stage are all unseeded, Stakhovsky who faces Tsitsipas today is a Lucky Loser, Rublev and Bachinger are both qualifiers and Rublev faces veteran Kukushkin and Bachinger faces French Wild Card Humbert.
At the time of writing three of the four quarter final births were determined with just the winner of the Del Potro and Opelka match to be completed and whoever wins will face surprise package McDonald from the USA who knocked out seventh seed Fritz and the experienced veteran Garcia-Lopez yesterday. Another surprise package to reach this stage is Britain’s Dan Evans who came through qualifying, is on a five match winning streak as a result and today faces wily veteran and sixth seed Seppi. The one remaining quarter final is between second seed Isner and eighth seed Frenchman Mannarino.
Finally, at Rio there’s been the most shocks and upsets as all eight seeds have already bitten the dust. Today’s quarter finals are between Djere from Serbia and NextGen star and qualifier Rudd, Slovenia’s Bedene faces Bolivian qualifier Dellien, veteran Spaniard faces veteran Cuevas (advised 20/1) and last but not lest there’s the all NextGen clash between Spaniard Munar and Canadian Auger-Aliassime.
