It’s quarter finals day at the two ATP Tennis tournaments at Marrakech and Houston and the unpredictability, high number of shocks and upsets so far this season has continued in to this week. At Marrakech there’s only one seed left Simon seeded four and the biggest upsets were Vesely beating second seed Fognini in the first round and yesterday Spanish NextGen star Munar knocking out top seed Zverev yesterday. The quarter final line-up is Munar vs. Paire, veteran Tsonga vs Italian NextGen Sonego, fourth seed Simon faces Daniel from Japan and finally defending veteran champion Andujar (advised 50/1) faces Vesely who he has a 2-0 losing head-to-head record against so if you’ve backed Andujar I advise at least covering your outright stake.
At the time of writing seeded players were fairing better at Houston as top seed and defending champion was through to the second round and you will find out in the morning GMT if he made the quarter finals, seventh seed Aussie Thompson was also through to the second round and you will know in the morning if he made the quarter finals. Unseeded players NextGen Rudd and veteran Spaniard Granollers are both surprise quarter finalists. Norwegian Rudd beat fourth seed Opelka and Granollers knocked out fifth seed Fritz and Tomic and they will both face each other for a place in the semi-finals.
Third seed Brit Norrie was upset by veteran Tipsarevic and the Serb will face the winner of the Querrey seeded eighth and veteran Garcia-Lopez second round encounter. Finally, qualifier Swiss Laaksonen who knocked out Americans sixth seed McDonald and Harrison will face little known Chilean Garin who knocked out second seed Chardy and veteran clay expert Cuevas for a place in the semi-finals.
