The completion of the second round at the Madrid ATP Masters 1000 Series takes place today along with the start of the third round. The main upsets in the first and second rounds so far have been the unseeded in-form Argentine Pella knocking out tenth seed Medvedefv, the unseeded Schwartzman knocking out sixteenth seed Cecchinato, American qualifiera Fritz and Opelka knocking out higher ranked oppnents, former top-10 star Dimitrov and the unseeded and former top twenty star Carreno-Busta respectively.

Two players have also made the third round, top seed and two-time champion Djokovic and ninth seed Cilic who knocked out Fritz and Struff respectively.

The highlight of the second round matches could be between fifteenth seed Monfils against the unseeded, talented and tough to beat Fusovics which should be a a close and hard fought match and third seed Sascha Zverev continues his fight to return to form and faces a tricky test against veteran Ferrer who koncked out compatriot Bautista-Agut in the first round and it could be a close one as Zverev leads the head-to-head 5-3 but Ferrer beat him at the Miami Masters 1000 Series back in March.
