It’s the first of the big European league cup competitions finals tonight the Europa League between Chelsea (advised 8/1 Ante Post) and Arsenal and it’s being played in Baku the capital of Azerbaijan at the Olympic Stadium. It’s great that there’s two English clubs contesting the final like the Champions League on Saturday in Spain, however, there’s been plenty of controversy surrounding the allocation of tickets, cost of tickets and especially the cost of travelling to Azerbaijan plus accommodation it’s expected both clubs will be far less well represented by fans which could affect the atmosphere in the stadium for the game.

In all official cup competitions (excluding the Community Shield, Champions and Europa League) matches between Arsenal and Chelsea going back to 1998, the Gunners have a slight upper hand winning six, Chelsea won four and there were two normal time draws. Also, nine of these games between the two since 1998 ended with over 2 goals being scored and most of these matches ended with both teams scoring as well.

From a betting perspective i like the historical statistics for goals being scored in most of their previous encounters in cup competitions and I think history could repeat itself in tonight’s nights final. Both teams have been far from solid and consistent defensively away from home this season, especially Chelsea, and because both teams possess some of the world’s best attacking players on show, like Arsenal with Aubameyang and Lacazette who’ve been in great form towards the end of this season I think the goals will come again tonight.

I think it could be the Gunners night based on their record against Chelsea in cup competitions as mentioned above and if the club top scorers this season Aubameyang and Lacazette’s can continue their good form and relationship up front they should be able to outscore Chelsea tonight and win their first silverware since lifting the FA Cup back in 2017.
