It’s quarter finals day at this week two ATP Tour grass court events at Stuggart, Germany and s-Hertogenbosch, Netherlands and yesterday there was a host of upsets with three of top two seeds crashing out. At Stuttgart top seed Alexander Zverev lost his opening match against compatriot and qualifier Brown in three sets, second seed Khachanov could also not back up his Roland Garros success losing his opening match against the talented Italian Berrettini more known for his clay court success so far in his career.

Third seed Medvedev and fourth seed Basilashvili also crashed out at the first time of asking against Pouille 7-6 6-4 6-2 and Fucsovics 6-7 6-2 7-5 respectively. Fifth seed Monfils also was upset by outsider Kudla in a nail-biting three set encounter 7-5 6-7 7-6. The only two seeds to progress to the Stuttgart quarter finals are seventh seed and NextGen star Auger Aliasimme and sixth seed Raonic advised (10/1).

Today’s quarter finals at Stuttgart are between seventh seed Canadian teenager Auger Aliasimme and qualifier veteran Brown from Germany who are playing for the first time. Sixth seed Raonic faces Hungarian Fucsovics for the second time today and hopefully, Raonic can repeat that success again which was here at Stuttgart last year in straight sets. The other German left standing is the unseeded Struff who has impressed reaching this stage not dropping a set.

However, he may face a much sterner test today against Wild Car Pouille who leads the head-to-head 3-0, which include two wins on grass at Halle and Stuttgart in three sets in 2017. The final game of the Stuttgart quarter finals today is between two unseeded players American Kudla Italian Berettinni and this should be a real entertaining battle as they’ve met five times on the tour previously.

Kudla leads the head-to-head 3-2 and his wins came on hard courts at Dubai in three sets, the US Open in straights sets in 2018 and the Australian Open qualifying in 2018 in three sets. Berettinni won at the Indian Wells 1000 Masters Series qualifying in straight sets back in 2018 and on clay at Munich this year in straight sets.

At s-Hertogenbosch, there were plenty of upsets yesterday as well. Top seed Tsitsipas crashed out against rising Chilean star Jarry in three sets fourth seed Verdascos’ disappointing grass form continued losing against the unseeded Frenchman 1-6 6-3 6-4 and sixth seed Tiafoe was also upset losing against unseeded Aussie Thompson in tame fashion 6-3 6-3.

Today’s s-Hertogenbosch quarter finals will be between Jarry and either Kukushkin or eighth seed and defending champion Gasquet as their second-round match was interrupted yesterday due to bad light. There’s an all Aussie clash between third seed De Minaur and the unseeded Thompson and De Minaur is favourite to progress because he leads the head-to-head 2-0 both on hard courts in Australia at Brisbane and Sydney this year in straight sets.

Fifth seed Goffin is the hot favourite to beat Mannarino today as he leads the head-to-head 4-0 with all wins coming on outdoor and indoor hard courts in straight sets between 2012 and 2017 and finally rising Chilean star Garin faces second seed Wild Card Coric (advised 7/1) for the first time.
