No joy for the Lionesses last night in the World Cup as they were edged out against reigning World Cup champions the USA 2-1, but it could have been much closer if captain Steph Houghton had not missed a big pressure 84th minute penalty! However, it’s fair to say USA were the better team and technically more gifted and defensively more organised.

The action continues at the Women’s World Cup tonight as the Netherlands take on Sweden for the other highly coveted final spot and chance to dethrone reigning champions the USA.

Hosts Brazil are the first team through to the COPA America finals after beating Argentina 2-0 in the early hours of this morning. They will face either Chile or Peru in the final and they play their semi-final in the early hours of tomorrow morning.
