Manchester United kicked off their 2019/2020 Premier League campaign in impressive fashion comprehensively beating Frank Lampard’s Chelsea 4-0 thanks to a brace from last season’s top scorer Rashford and goals from Martial and midfielder James, which was his first for the club on his debut. Chelsea were competitive for about three-quarters of the match, but under constant pressure especially at the back and this eventually told midway through the second half when United capitalized on defensive errors scoring twice in five minutes to extend their lead to 3-0.
It was definitely a baptism of fire for new Chelsea boss Lampard who will now fully realise the size of the task he faces and the big question will be is he capable of dealing with this task and the associated pressure and building a new team and squad that is capable of competing at the elite level again. In the other two Super Sunday Premier League games Arsenal kicked their new season off with a hard-fought 1-0 win at Newcastle United and Leicester City and Wolves shared the spoils at the King Power after a 0-0 draw.
