The 2019 Cincinnati Masters 1000 Series is now underway, and the second-round action should be completed by the early hours of tomorrow morning weather permitting. Montreal winner and second seed this week Nadal decided to withdraw pre-tournament and it’s likely he has decided winning Montreal was good enough preparation again for the final Grand Slam of the season the US Open.

Top-seed and defending champion Djokovic and third seed and seven-time Cincinnati champion Federer (advised @ 5/1) both kicked off their campaigns with wins and will be in third-round action tomorrow night or the early hours of Thursday morning. Eleventh seed Baugtista Agut (advised @ 40/1) won his opener against Hurcazk from Poland in straight sets and will face unseeded American Tiafoe tonight for a place in the third round.

There were a few seeded players who crashed out in the first or second round like twelfth seed Coric who lost a three-set battle against Wild Card American Opelka, thirteenth seed Isner, who lost a three-set marathon against qualifier Carreno-Busta, fourteenth seed Cilic lost to the unseeded Albot and fifteenth seed Basilashvili lost a three-set marathon against qualifier Rublev.

The remaining top ten seeds should be in action tonight like fifth seed Tsitsipas who faces unseeded German Struff for the fourth time and the young Greek leads the head-to-head 2-1, sixth seed Nishikori faces qualifier and compatriot Nishioka for the first time, seventh seed Zverev faces Serbian qualifier Kecmanovic for the first time and eighth seed Khachanov faces a really tough test against ATP 500 Washington winner Kyrgios, which will be their first meeting on the ATP Tour. Finally, Andy Murray’s return to the ATP main tour this week after an age away due to a long-term hip injury ended in to defeat against fellow veteran Gasquet and the disappointing results for British fans continued as British number one Edmunds lost his first-round match against ninth seed and Montreal finalist Medvedev in straight sets.
