Premier League clubs joined the League Cup action last night and it was another night of quality entertainment with loads of goals. The biggest shock of the night was League Two Crawley knocking out Premier League Norwich 1-0 at Broadfield Stadium and Crystal Palace were also upset at home losing to League One Colchester on penalties. Brighton and Watford both picked up their first win of the season beating League One Bristol Rovers 2-1 at the Memorial Stadium and League One Coventry 3-0 at Vicarage Road respectively. Aston Villa were impressive thrashing League One Crewe 6-1 at Alexandra Stadium, West Ham were too good for Newport County in Wales winning 2-0, Southampton edged out Fulham 1-0 at Craven Cottage and Sheffield Utd rounded off a good night for Premier League clubs beating Blackburn 2-1 at Brammall Lane.
Cardiff’s woes continued as they were comprehensively beaten by the impressive Luton 3-0 at the Cardiff City stadium, Leeds were upset on penalties by Stoke at Elland Road, Forest added to Derby’s troubles easily beating them 3-0 at the City Ground and finally, high flying Preston continued their good form beating Hull on penalties at Deepdale.
