Football

Another action-packed weekend of football ahead with a bumper list of International and domestic matches taking place, including Euro 2020 qualifiers every day until next Tuesday and EFL League One and Two, action on Saturday. There are nine Euro 2020 qualifiers tonight including Scotland at home to Russia in Group I and Wales face bottom of Group E with zero points Azerbaijan. Scotland could really do with a win to bolster their qualification chances while a win for second place Russia would enhance their qualification hopes further. Wales should see off goal-shy Azerbaijan at home and they’re defensively sound enough to keep a clean sheet in the process.

Germany at home to the Netherlands in Group C is a must-win-game for both teams as they trail group leaders Northern Ireland by three and nine points respectively. If previous corresponding encounters are anything to go buy there should be plenty of attacking football and goals again and on group form so far Germany should edge it if they can stay solid in defence. World Cup finalists Croatia’s form has been disappointing post World Cup, they’re joint second in Group E with tonight’s opponents Slovakia, who are at home and I sense an upset on the cards with a narrow home win or score draw.

On Saturday the EFL action kick-offs from lunchtime as MK Dons take on AFC Wimbledon live on satellite tv. I expect the cameras will bring the best out of both teams, which should ensure goals and MK Dons are favourites to collect all three points. From the 3pm kick-offs in League One the Yorkshire derby between Doncaster and Rotherham should be a tight hard fought match and the draw is worth trading or backing, Blackpool and Gillingham look overpriced against high flying Coventry and Tranmere respectively. In League Two Macclesfield and Newport look like good value home bankers.

Finally, England are in Euro 2020 qualifier action at 5pm tomorrow against Bulgaria at Wembley and England should win comfortably if Southgate doesn’t tinker with his best team too much.
