The non-stop football action continues this weekend and it’s back to domestic Premier League and EFL action that gets underway tonight with a live Premier League derby between Southampton and Bournemouth at Saint Mary’s. Southampton has the upper hand in terms of past corresponding encounters winning four of the last six and I wouldn’t put anyone off backing them as they are difficult to beat at home and Bournemouth are not the best on the road in the Premier League. I think there will be goals in this encounter as most of both teams last ten respective home and away games in all competitions have featured both teams scoring and/or over 2.5 goals, as have the last two corresponding Premier League encounters between the two.
On Saturday there’s two live lunch-time kick off’s and one live tea-time kick-off. The lunchtime kick-offs are from the Premier League between Leicester City and Spurs and Leeds United and Derby in the EFL Championship. Spurs will have to recover in time for their big lunch-time away game against Leicester City tomorrow after their mid-week Champions League exploits, but they can take heart from their good record in this corresponding fixture having won five of the last ten at the King Power, while Leicester City won four of the last ten at home in the Premier League. Goals have featured in many of the last ten corresponding encounters with both teams to score landing eight times and over 2.5 goals landing seven times.
The EFL Championship live lunch-time game is a heavyweight clash between Leeds and Derby at Elland Road and there’s little between the two teams in terms of this corresponding league fixture. Leeds has won six of the last seventeen, Derby seven and there were four draws. Both teams have been struggling for wins and to find their best form so far this season and in terms of their respective home and away form this season Leeds looks the most likely winner on this occasion, but I prefer going for goals and backing Both Teams to Score ‘Yes’ as this would have landed in six of their last ten corresponding league encounters. Finally, the live tea-time kick-off is from the Premier League between Newcastle United and Brighton and while it pains me to do so being a Newcastle fan, I must keep opposing them at home where their record is not great in the league.
