
It’s quarter finals day at the ATP Tour Shanghai Masters 1000 Series in China and legends top seed and defending champion Djokovic and second seed and two-time Shanghai winner Federer are still on track to meet in the final from opposite halves of the draw. Djokovic faces NextGen Greek star Tsitsipas for the third time today, Djokovic won their last meeting on clay at this year’s Madrid Masers 1000 Series 6-3 6-4 and Tsitsipas won the other encounter at the Canadian Masters 1000 Series last year in three sets.
The other quarter-final from the top-half of the draw looks like a potential classic between the enigmatic new Russian star, third seed Medvedev and volatile tenth seed Italian veteran Fognini, who is still chasing a spot at this year’s ATP Finals. This will be the twos third meeting on the ATP Tour, Medvedev won the last encounter at Sydney this year in three sets and Fognini won the other at the Cincinnati Masters 1000 Series back in 2017.
Federer takes on fifth seed Alexander Zverev for the seventh time today, this is their first meeting since the 2018 ATP Finals, which Zverev won in straight sets, and Zverev won there only meeting on hard-courts at the 2017 Canadian Masters 1000 Series. Finally, fourth seed and Beijing winner Thiem will aim to continue his impressive turn around in form today, against the exciting and explosive eleventh seed Berrettini from Italy. This is there second meeting on the tour and Thiem won it in four sets at the 2018 French Open.
