This weeks ATP Tour action at Basel and Vienna is now well underway and at Basel second seed Alexander Zverev was the biggest casualty so far losing in straight sets against American Taylor Fritz. Defending champion and top seed Federer, third seed Tsitsipas and fourth seed Bautista Agut had no such troubles breezing past German qualifier Gojowczyk 6-2 6-1, Spanish veteran Ramos-Vinolas 6-3 7-6 and veteran and 2018 finalist veteran Copil 6-4 7-5 respectively, but eighth seed Paire’scampaign ended early losing against Swiss Wild Card Laaksonen in straight sets.

At Vienna the top three seeds Thiem, Khachanov and Berettinni all won tricky openers against Tsonga, Hurkacz and Edmunds respectively. Fifth seed Schwartzman also won his opener against Herbert in straight sets, but seventh seed and compatriot Pella was the only seed so far to lose his opening match.
