Two late mistakes by George Coetzee, a double bogey and a bogey, cost him a place and us a profit on the week.

Just the one event to concentrate on this week with the WGC HSBC Champions tournament in Shanghai in China which sees a lot of the top players in the world in attendance. There is a new PGA tour event taking place in Bermuda, but it is not the strongest of fields and is best watched for future reference.

WGC HSBC Champions Event

Defending champion is Xander Schauffele who beat Tony Finau at the first play-off hole, the two of them having finished four shots clear on 14 under. Highest finishing Chinese player was Haotong LI who tied in 11th place and he returns as he attempts to become the first Chinese winner. Previous winners here include Justin Rose, Hideki Matsuyama, Dustin Johnson and Martin Kaymer with players of the quality of Henrik Stenson, Tony Finau and Brooks Koepka all having finished runner up. The course is conducive to scoring if you put the ball in play from the tee and it will suit the longer accurate hitters. The closing hole is a great Par 5, reached over water and could yield an eagle, more likely a birdie, but because of the water, bogey or double bogey comes into play. Let’s hope it is close going down the last to test the nerves of the contenders.
