Golf

Last week was the perfect result with Stenson and Reed, our two picks, finishing first and third. I have looked hard at this week’s offerings but can find no angle for a bet.

There is no event on the European Tour this week but on the PGA tour there is a tournament in Florida, the QBE shootout which is a pairs contest. Last year Patton Kizzire and Brian Harman lifted the trophy and they are as big as 14/1 to defend their crowns. It is difficult to find value here although some shrewd judges have latched on to the rookie partnership of Hovland and Wolff at 6/1.

This week sees The Presidents Cup which is the USA / International version of The Ryder Cup. The International team have only won once in twelve contests, but that was at this year’s venue at Royal Melbourne Golf Club. Looking at the teams it is clear to see why USA are short priced favourites with the International team being far less experienced, with seven rookies compared to the US team with five, although two of those five have played Ryder Cup. Tiger Woods and Ernie Els are the two captains, and this promises to be an exciting contest.

There are plenty of betting opportunities but with so many inexperienced in this format, I will not be recommending any bets. If pushed, Marc Leishman and Louis Oosthuizen for the International team and Webb Simpson and Rickie Fowler for the US, might be a little bit of value in their relevant Top points scorer markets.
