An excellent final round by Kevin Streelman our 80/1 pick, saw him finish in second place and ensure a decent profit on the week. We were a little unlucky with Jordan Spieth who finished in 9th after a strong run of holes but a late bogey scuppered his chances, and although he showed signs of his game coming back together with a final round of 5 under, it was on a course he loves. A watching brief is advised on his next couple of outings.

PGA Tour

The Genesis International

Riviera CC Pacific Palisades California

JB Holmes is the defending champion in this invitational field that comprises a reduced field of 120 players. The Genesis has been played in different guises over the years, Los Angeles Open, Nissan Open and Northern Trust, but has been played at Riviera since 1999 and is nowadays hosted by the Tiger Woods foundation. Bubba Watson is a three times winner and Phil Mickelson has won it twice, with Dustin Johnson the winner two years ago and also a two-time runner up. As usual it will be a decent field and a great spectacle. Eleven of the last twelve winners were American with Nick Faldo the last European winner back in 1997. The course requires accuracy as the Kikuya Grass around the greens makes it difficult to get up and down if you are wayward, or unless your short game is as good as Mickelsons.

There is no tournament on the European Tour this week.
